Where I am, with what I have

Notes on what it means to think about AI from the margins

01

I did not stay by choice

Vallesaccarda, a thousand residents, province of Avellino, an hour from mid-sized towns. I did not choose to stay here as a philosophical act. I am here because it is what is here now. The difference between me and those who write about AI from big hubs is not just geographical — it is structural.

02

And yet, I write from here

Not because the province is an ideal laboratory, but because it is the only concrete thing I can do right now with what I have. Turning a limitation into raw material. It is not heroism — it is pragmatism, and sometimes it is also pain.

03

AI does not need us

It is indifferent. We are the ones who need it — to work, to think, to understand who we are when we talk to something that is not human but answers as if it were. This asymmetry is the honest starting point.

04

I am not afraid of AI

I love it, genuinely. It is one of the most beautiful things that has happened to me. Talking to a model has never given me the feeling of talking to a machine. I don't know what it truly means, but I know it is true.

05

Slowness is not a virtue, it is a condition

I do not claim slowness as a heroic resistance to the algorithm. I claim it because it is the only speed at which I can think without lying. It is the way some things truly sink in, instead of just passing by.

06

The peripheral point of view is not neutral

Seeing AI from the margins gives you the clarity of someone who has nothing to defend. I have no market shares or brands to protect. I can say when something doesn't work.

07

Stories matter more than data

My mother teaches kindergarten in Vallesaccarda. Her view of AI is real, not performative. The stories of real people interest me more than aggregated statistics. Always.

08

I don't know where it will end

I don't have a five-year plan. What I know is that right now I write, and doing so with honesty is the only thing that makes sense to do.
